Florida Esthetician

Considering a career as a Florida esthetician? You will be happy to learn that the licensing requirements in this state are considerably more lenient than many other states. While the average requirement is 600 hours of training at an accredited facility Florida only requires 260 hours. After successful completion of such a program you will be qualified to take the state exam. If you pass, you will be able to work as an esthetician. Most estheticians specialize in skin care and hair removal.

An esthetician may perform various facials and even blemish extractions. They may also do waxing on the face and body. Some estheticians train longer and learn massage or other skills in addition to esthetics. By combining massage or aromatherapy with your basic services you can attract a bigger client base and may be able to earn a higher salary. One thing is certain, the demand for estheticians is growing. This career field shows no sign of slowing as people flock to day spas and salons for facials and treatments.

Estheticians often consult with their clients regarding at home skin care and even sell their clients professional products. This means that in addition to what you make from your services you may also make commission on what you sell. When studying this career field it is important to learn good sales and interpersonal skills. Not only do you want to put your clients at ease and make them feel comfortable, but also encourage them to purchase the appropriate products for their skin without being pushy towards them. Esthetician schools often include these topics in their curriculum.

Florida offers many esthetician schools where you can study. One is Central Florida College which offers an aesthetics program. The North Florida Institute, Ultimate Medical Academy and Gulf Coast College are just a few more institutions that offer this type of training program. Before choosing where you want to attend school you should tour the facilities and meet with admissions advisors. School cosmetology and esthetics programs involve both technical and academic training so you'll not only be reading and taking tests but also practicing real job skills. This is a career field that can be very rewarding and enjoyable, especially if you like helping others look and feel more confident and attractive.
